Shea Nut Butter

THE MIRACLE OF AFRICA.

Shea butter is made from the nut of the Karite Tree which grows in Burkina Faso West Africa. It takes up to 30 years to bear a quality crop rich in fatty acids.

Our Shea Butter comes directly from villages where it has been made in the same way for hundreds of years. Women pick the nuts, crack the shell grind the kernels and pound them by hand into a paste. This is boiled in water until the thick yellow foam rises, this is scooped into the gourd and left to set. While this does not yield large quantities like factory processing, no chemicals are added which leach active ingredients. This is called "unrefined" or "raw" shea butter.

NATURES GOODNESS

Most seed oils can be divided into 2 fractions.

1/ moisturising and

2/ healing

The later contains a synergistic blend of nutrients, vitamins and other phytonutrients. In other seed oils, the healing fraction is as low as 1% or less, it is their moisturizing fraction that is most useful. By contrast, Shea Butter contains healing fractions of 6-17%. It also has high levels of unsaponifiable between 7-12%. This is a type of fat renown for revitalising skin and hair. By comparison, Avocado oil has only 2-6%.

Another advantage of Shea Butter is its low melting point. When applied to the skin it liquefies, making it ideal for massage. It may also melt in the jar during hot weather. This is normal and does not affect its quality. To resolidify it simply place it in the refrigerator giving it a stir as it begins to cool bringing the olein(liquid parts)back into contact with the stearin(solid parts).

NATURAL SKIN

Shea Butter contains an abundance of vitamin A & E These nourish the skin and keep it clear & healthy. They are also beneficial for sun damage and peeling, as well as premature wrinkles and facial lines. Vitamin A acts as a skin protector and rejuvenator. It soothes and softens rough dry and chapped skin. Shea Butter easily penetrates the skin, allowing it to breathe & not clog pores. Although we do not make or imply medical claims, reported benefits are improved elasticity, relief of itching due to dryness, stretch marks, windburn, small wounds or cuts, minor burns, skin discolouration and blemishes. It has a high level of cinnamic acid a natural sunscreen which provides a mild degree of protection. Shea Butter is also anti-inflammatory, making it useful for aching joints.

HEALTHY HAIR

Shea Butter restores dry & brittle hair by adding and locking in moisturizing agents. It protects against damaging sun and excessive heat as well as the after effect of perms and Dyes. It repairs and prevents breakage and split ends. It is quickly absorbed to rehydrate and stimulate the roots and scalp. Unlike petroleum-based products, it will not clog or block hair shafts, thus allowing for improved transpiration and growth. Shea Butter is ideal as a conditioning sheen, improving manageability and before swimming to protect against chlorine or sea salt.
